Ashton, Gardner And Dyke - Songs

ABOUT

Ashton, Gardner & Dyke were a British blues rock trio that became famous during the early 1970s. They are best known on both sides of the Atlantic for the ebullient "Resurrection Shuffle" (1971).

Formed in 1968 in London by keyboardist/lead vocalist Tony Ashton (March 1, 1946 - May 28, 2001), who served as the group's main songwriter, the lineup also consisted of bassist Kim Gardner (January 27, 1948 - October 24, 2001) and drummer Roy Dyke, along with lead guitarist Mick Liber and a number of other musicians. Prior to the trio's formation, Ashton and Dyke had both been members of the Liverpool beat group, the Remo Four, who backed George Harrison on his 1968 debut album, "Wonderwall Music." In 1969, Ashton, Gardner & Dyke released their eponymous debut album and first single, "Maiden Voyage," on Polydor Records before moving to Capitol.

Ashton, Gardner & Dyke had one hit in 1971 with the Ashton-penned "Resurrection Shuffle," which made the U.K. Top 5 and the U.S. Top 40. This transatlantic smash, which has since been covered by Tom Jones, Clarence Clemons, and other artists, is included on the trio's second album, "The Worst Of Ashton, Gardner, & Dyke" (1971). They released several more recordings before disbanding in 1973.
