Benny Carter (August 8, 1907 - July 12, 2003) was a highly acclaimed and veteran alto saxophonist, clarinetist, trumpeter, composer, arranger, and bandleader who became famous beginning in the 1930s. He is best known for "Poinciana (Song Of The Tree)"/"Hurry, Hurry!" (1944), which became a big hit on the Country, R&B, and Pop charts. He was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987.
