The Big Bopper (October 24, 1930 - February 3, 1959, b. Jiles Perry Richardson Jr.) was a singer, songwriter, and DJ on KTRM in Beaumont, TX who tragically perished in the same plane crash that also took the lives of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. He is best known for the ebullient self-penned oldies classic, "Chantilly Lace" (1958). A prolific songwriter, his works for other artists include George Jones's "White Lightening" and Johnny Preston's "Running Bear."
