James "Big Sambo" Young was a Texas-born R&B singer and saxophonist who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known for the original 1962 hit version of "The Rains Came" (with The House Wreckers) which was later remade by Freddie Fender in 1977 and made the Country charts Top 5.
