Billy Butterfield (January 14, 1917 - March 18, 1988) was a highly acclaimed jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, and bandleader who became famous beginning in the late 1930s. His best known songs include the romantic "Rumors Are Flying" (1946) with vocals by Pat O'Connor. Over his long career, he played with such jazz greats as Artie Shaw, Les Brown, and Benny Goodman.
