Billy Idol (b. William Michael Albert Broad in 1955) is a highly acclaimed English rock singer and songwriter who first became famous during the mid 1970s as the frontman and co-founder of the London punk rock band, Generation Xs, before going solo. A top act during the 1980s of the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" in the U.S., he gained international fame with such hits as the cynical "White Wedding" (1983), the haunting "Eyes Without A Face" (1984), the rockabilly-styled "To Be A Lover" (1986), the hard-driving "Don't Need A Gun" (1987), and "Mony Mony" (1987), a chart-topping "live" new wave remake of the 1968 hit by Tommy James & The Shondells.
