Bob Geldof (b. 1951) is a highly acclaimed and veteran Irish singer-songwriter and activist who first became famous during the late 1970s as the lead singer of The Boomtown Rats before going solo in 1986. He is best known in the U.S. for "This Is The World Calling" (1986), which topped the charts in Ireland and became a big hit in many other countries worldwide. Geldof starred as Pink in the 1982 movie "Pink Floyd - The Wall." He organized the charity supergroup Band Aid and the Live Aid and Live 8 concerts, and with Midge Ure, co-wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
