Bruce Hornsby (b. 1954) is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist who became famous during the late 1980s with his group, The Range. Best known for the powerful piano-driven ballad, "The Way It Is" (1986), a poignant commentary about social inequality and racial discrimination which topped the charts, other major hits include "Mandolin Rain" (1987) and "The Valley Road" (1988).
