Buddy Holly (September 7, 1936 - February 3, 1959, b. Charles Hardin Holley) was a celebrated and pioneering rock & roll/rockabilly singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is a central figure in pop music history. With The Crickets, he recorded such classics as "That'll Be The Day" (1957), "Peggy Sue" (1957), "Oh, Boy!" (1957), and "Maybe Baby" (1958). After Holly's untimely death in 1959 in a plane crash that also took the lives of Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper, and pilot Roger Peterson, The Crickets continued to tour and record up through early 2016, with many personnel changes over the years.
