Cissy Houston (September 30, 1933 - October 7, 2024, b. Emily Drinkard) was a highly acclaimed and veteran soul and gospel singer who began as a child singing in her family's group, The Drinkard Singers. She became a highly sought-after session singer and formed The Sweet Inspirations (of "Sweet Inspiration" fame) became going solo in 1970. She is best known for her hit cover of The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" (1971), an R&B Top 40 hit and her biggest Pop/Rock crossover success. She was the mother of Whitney Houston.
