Clarence 'Frogman' Henry - Songs

ABOUT

Clarence "Frogman" Henry (March 19, 1937 - April 7, 2024) was an R&B/novelty singer, pianist, and trombonist who became famous during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Best known for the affable and goofy "Ain't Got No Home" (1956), other hits include "But I Do" (1961) and his hit cover of The Mills Brothers' "You Always Hurt The One You Love" (1961).

Born Clarence Henry II in New Orleans, Louisiana, he played piano as a child and began his music career in the early 1950s while still in his teens, joining Bobby Mitchell & The Toppers as a pianist and trombonist. He gained fame in the mid 1950s with "Ain't Got No Home" (1956), a novelty smash showcasing his unique vocal style with humorous croaks that earned him the nickname "Frogman." His commercial fame peaked in the early 1960s with "But I Do" (1961, aka (I Don't Know Why) But I Do), with several more hits thereafter on both the Pop/Rock and R&B charts. In 1964, he opened 18 concerts for The Beatles across the U.S. and Canada, and he became a regular performer at New Orleans's Bourbon Street strip where he played for almost 20 years. Clarence Henry was honored in 2007 for his contributions to Louisiana music with induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
