Donny Hathaway (October 1, 1945 - January 13, 1979, b. Donny Edward Hathaway) was a highly acclaimed and influential soul singer, songwriter, keyboardist, and arranger who became famous during the 1970s. Best known for his smash duets with Roberta Flack, "Where Is The Love" (1972) and "The Closer I Get To You" (1978), which both topped the R&B charts and are among his biggest crossover successes, other hits include his soulful rendition of the Carole King-penned "You've Got A Friend" (1971) as also made famous by James Taylor. Hathaway won a Grammy and was inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame, and he was posthumously honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Sadly, his life and career were cut short in 1979 at age 33 by suicide.
