ABOUT

Eddy Grant (b. Edmond Montague Grant) is a highly acclaimed and veteran Guyanese-British reggae, pop, rock, funk, calypso, and soca singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who became famous beginning in the late 1960s as the lead singer and songwriter for The Equals before launching a successful solo career in 1979. Best known worldwide for the upbeat and funky "Electric Avenue" (1983), which received a Grammy nomination and became a million-seller, other hits include "Romancing The Stone" (1984), inspired by, but not included in the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. He is also widely known for the anti-apartheid anthem, "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" (1988), which became a big hit in Europe.
