Ellie Greenwich (October 23, 1940 - August 26, 2009) was a highly acclaimed and veteran singer, songwriter, and producer who became famous beginning in the early 1960s as a hitmaking songwriter with then-husband Jeff Barry who were both part of the pop music history-making Brill Building songwriting scene. They frequently worked with producer Phil Spector, creating such oldies classics as The Ronettes' "Be My Baby," The Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron," and The Shangri-Las' "Leader Of The Pack." As a performing artist, Greenwich is best known for "I Want You To Be My Baby" (1967).
