George Jones

George Jones (September 12, 1931 - April 26, 2013) was a celebrated country music singer and songwriter with an expressive baritone and a flair for storytelling who became internationally famous beginning in the late 1950s. His best known songs include his energetic cover of The Big Bopper-penned early rock & roller, "White Lightning" (1959), and the self-penned (with Darrell Edwards) ballad, "Tender Years" (1961), which both topped the Country charts and became his biggest Pop/Rock crossover successes. His very long string of hits on the Country charts through 2008 also includes such classics as "She Thinks I Still Care" (1962), "Walk Through This World With Me" (1967), "We're Gonna Hold On" (1973, with Tammy Wynette), and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" (1980). His numerous honors include being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (1992).
