Grandmaster Flash (b. Joseph Robert Saddler) is a highly acclaimed and veteran Barbadian-American DJ, record producer, rapper, and a key figure in hip hop music renowned for his pioneering turntable techniques who became famous beginning in the late 1970s as the leader of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. He is best known for the groundbreaking and socially conscious "The Message" (1982), a Top 5 R&B/Hip-Hop hit and UK Top 10, featuring a gut-wrenching narrative about inner city violence, drugs, and poverty. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
