Gwen Guthrie (July 9, 1950 - February 3, 1999) was a veteran R&B singer and songwriter who served as a backing vocalist for such top acts as Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, and Madonna, and who wrote songs as made famous by Ben E. King and Roberta Flack. As a solo artist, she is best known for the anthemic "Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent" (1986), which topped the R&B charts and became her biggest Pop/Rock crossover success.
