ABOUT
The Harmonicats (aka Jerry Murad's Harmonicats) were a hugely popular and veteran harmonica trio led by Jerry Murad (ca. 1918 - May 11, 1996, b. Gerald Muradian) that became famous during the late 1940s and early 1950s. The classic lineup also consisted of Al Fiore (d. October 25, 1996) and Don Les (ca. 1914 - August 25, 1994, b. Dominic Leshinski), with numerous personnel changes over the years. They are best known for their unique, otherworldly instrumental cover of the Alfred Bryan/Fred Fisher-penned pop standard, "Peg O' My Heart" (1947), which spent 21 weeks on the Pop charts, peaking at #1, and soon after became a million-seller. The Harmonicats' rendition of this song, in which one of the bathrooms at Universal Recording was used as an echo chamber, is the first known pop recording to make use of artificial reverberation.
