Harry Belafonte (b. March 1, 1927) is a highly acclaimed singer, songwriter, activist, and actor who became world famous beginning in the early 1950s and popularized calypso music. His many hits include "Banana Boat (Day-O)" (1957), "Mama Look At Bubu" (1957), and "Island In The Sun" (1957), the title song to the movie in which he co-starred. He also has a long career in the movies and TV, and his numerous honors include three Grammys and the Kennedy Center Honors.
