Herb Jeffries (September 24, 1913 - May 25, 2014, b. Umberto Alexander Valentino) was a singer, songwriter, and actor with a distinctive rich baritone who became famous during the late 1940s. His best known songs include such top hits as the romantic "When I Write My Song" (1947) and the serene "The Four Winds And The Seven Seas" (1949).
