ABOUT

Herbert Hancock is a highly acclaimed and veteran jazz pianist, electric keyboardist, bandleader, and composer who became famous beginning in the 1960s as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet. His hits on both the Pop/Rock and R&B charts include the funky "Chameleon" (1974), a jazz fusion standard, and the Grammy-winning "Rockit" (1983), which showcases his innovative use of electronic instruments. Other works include such jazz standards as the elegant "Cantaloupe Island" and the mellow "Watermelon Man," the latter made famous by Mongo Santamaria. Hancock's numerous honors and accolades include 14 Grammys and an Academy Award for his soundtrack to "Round Midnight" (1986 ).
