Irene Cara (b. March 18, 1959) is a highly acclaimed and veteran singer and actress who became famous during the early 1980s. Her long string of hits includes the chart-topping "Flashdance... What A Feeling" (1983), the title song from the movie which earned Cara an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She co-starred and performed in the 1980 movie blockbuster, "Fame," which catapulted her to stardom.
