ABOUT
Ivory Joe Hunter (October 10, 1914 - November 8, 1974) was a highly acclaimed R&B singer, songwriter, and pianist with a smooth delivery who became famous beginning in the mid 1940s. His best known songs include such self-penned classics as "Pretty Mama Blues" (1948), "I Almost Lost My Mind" (1950), "I Need You So" (1950), and "Since I Met You Baby" (1956), all of which topped the R&B charts. The latter song, which also made the Pop/Rock Top 20 and became his biggest Pop/Rock crossover success, saw renewed popularity in 1969 when Sonny James' remake topped the Country charts. Hunter made a comeback in the late 1960s as a country singer, performing regularly at the Grand Ole Opry and recording a number of country albums.
