Jerry Garcia (August 1, 1942 - August 9, 1995, b. Jerome John Garcia) was a highly acclaimed and influential rock musician who became famous beginning in the 1960s as the lead guitarist and a singer with the hugely popular Grateful Dead, which he co-founded. As a solo artist, he is best known for the laid-back "Sugaree" (1972). He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a member of the Grateful Dead.
