Jimmy Heap (March 3, 1922 - December 3, 1977) was a country singer who became famous beginning in the late 1940s with his band, The Melody Masters, led by Perk Williams. Best known for the original hit version of the Eddie Miller/Robert Yount-penned pop standard, "Release Me" (1954), which made the Country Top 5 and was later covered by Engelbert Humperdinck and many others, Heap had his biggest Pop/Rock crossover success with the fidgety instrumental, "Butternut" (1956).
