Michael "Jimmy" James (September 13, 1940 - May 14, 2024) was a Jamaican-born soul singer based in England who served as the longtime lead singer of Jimmy James & The Vagabonds beginning in the early 1960s. Best known in the U.S. for the romantic ballad, "Come To Me Softly" (1968) and the defiant "I Am Somebody" (1976), they had their biggest hit with "Now Is The Time" (1976), a U.K. Top 5 disco smash which addresses environmental issues.
