Johnnie & Joe were a male-female R&B vocal duo from The Bronx, NY consisting of Johnnie Louise Richardson (June 29, 1935 - October 25, 1988) and Joe Rivers (March 20, 1937 - August 26, 2025) that became famous during the late 1950s. They are best known for their Top 10 cover of the Rex Garvin-penned romantic ballad, "Over The Mountain; Across The Sea" (1957), which also became a hit for Bobby Vinton. Richardson was the daughter of the J & S label owner, Zelma "Zell" Sanders.
