Judy Garland (June 10, 1922 - June 22, 1969, b. Frances Ethel Gumm) was a celebrated singer and actress with a distinctive strong contralto who became famous beginning in the 1920s. At age two, she began her career performing with her two sisters as a vaudeville act, The Gumm Sisters. Her international fame soared in 1939 at age 16 with her portrayal of Dorothy in "The Wizard Of Oz," one of many MGM musicals from 1935-1954 in which she starred and performed. Her signature song, "Over The Rainbow" (1939), became the first in a long string of hits through 1954 that also includes "I'm Nobody's Baby" (1940), "For Me And My Gal" (1943, with Gene Kelly), and "The Trolley Song" (1944).
