Lennie Hayton (February 14, 1908 - April 24, 1971) was a highly acclaimed and veteran pianist, composer, conductor and arranger known for his signature captain's hat who became famous beginning in the late 1930s. As a recording artist, he is best known for "I Know Now" (1937) and "Slaughter On 10th Avenue" (1949), which both made the Pop Top 20. Over his long career, he served as musical director for various radio shows and MGM movies and won Academy Awards for the soundtracks to "On The Town" (1948) and "Hello, Dolly!" (1969).
