Linda Laurie (May 26, 1941 - November 20, 2009, b. Linda Gertz) was a singer and songwriter who became famous during the late 1950s while still in her late teens. As a recording artist, she is best known for "Ambrose (Part Five)" (1959), a self-penned novelty hit about a girl walking through a dark subway tunnel with her boyfriend Ambrose. Laurie also wrote songs for such top acts as Cher, Love Unlimited, Nancy Sinatra, and Bobby Vinton. Her biggest success came in 1973 when she wrote and recorded the original version of "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)," which soon after became a big hit for Helen Reddy and a million-seller.
