ABOUT
Lorne Greene (February 12, 1915 - September 11, 1987, b. Lyon Himan Green) was a highly acclaimed and veteran Canadian actor, singer, and radio personality with a signature deep, commanding voice best known for his starring roles in the long-running TV Western, "Bonanza" (1959-1973), and in the TV sci-fi series, "Battlestar Galactica" (1978-1979) and "Galactica 1980." In the 1980s, he hosted the CTV nature series, "Lorne Greene's New Wilderness," a program that promoted environmental awareness.
During the early and mid 1960s, Greene recorded several country and folk music albums that capitalized on his image as Bonanza's Ben "Pa" Cartwright. As a performing artist, he is best known for the mostly-spoken ballad, "Ringo" (1964), which topped both the Adult Contemporary and Pop/Rock charts in the U.S. as well as the Canadian charts. Other hits include "The Man" (1965) and "Five Card Stud" (1966).
Lorne Greene's numerous honors and accolades include being made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1969.
