ABOUT
The Marketts were a pop/surf rock instrumental band that became famous during the early and mid 1960s. Best known for the eerie and futuristic Top 5 smash, "Out Of Limits" (1963), which became a million-seller, other hits include "Surfer's Stomp" (1962, billed as The Mar-Kets) and their Top 20 rendition of the "Batman Theme" (1966) based on the music from the same-named TV series co-starring Adam West and Burt Ward.
Formed in 1961 in Hollywood, California, by musician/composer/screenwriter/producer Michael Z. Gordon (April 4, 1941 - January 9, 2024), who served as the group's main songwriter, the lineup featured various Los Angeles-area session musicians that included drummer Hal Blaine. The Marketts released several singles and albums on Liberty, Warner Bros., and other labels through the late 1970s and resurfaced as The New Marketts in 1976 on the R&B charts with "Song From M*A*S*H."
