ABOUT

Merry Clayton (b. 1948) is a highly acclaimed and veteran backing singer with signature powerful vocals who became famous for such memorable performances as her gripping duet with Mick Jagger in The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" (1969). She also had a minor hit with this song in 1970 as a solo artist. Clayton is among those featured in the Oscar-winning "20 Feet From Stardom" (2013), a documentary about background singers and their contributions to the music industry.
