Paul Gayten

Paul Gayten (January 29, 1920 - March 26, 1991) was an R&B/jazz pianist, songwriter, bandleader, producer, and record company executive who became famous as a recording artist during the late 1940s. He is best known for his 1947 hit rendition of the jazz/pop standard, "Since I Fell For You," later made famous by Lenny Welch. Gayten's version, which features lead singer Annie Laurie, made the R&B Top 5 and Pop Top 20. His songwriting credits for other artists include "For You My Love," which topped the R&B charts for Larry Darnell in 1949. Gayten joined Chess Records in 1956 and worked as a talent scout, producer, promoter, and songwriter, while continuing to record. He discovered Clarence "Frogman" Henry and wrote/produced for him and others.
