Paul Hardcastle

ABOUT

Paul Hardcastle is an English composer, producer, songwriter, radio presenter, and multi-instrumentalist who became famous during the mid 1980s. He is best known internationally for "19" (1985), an intense synth-pop/new wave anti-war song featuring extended spoken narration about the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War and the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suffered by Vietnam vets. "19" was inspired by the ABC News "Closeup" TV documentary, "Vietnam Requiem" (1982), and the song's title comes from the documentary's narrative that 19 was the average age for U.S. combat soldiers in Vietnam. This song topped the charts in the U.K. and many other countries worldwide, made the U.S. Top 20, and received an Ivor Novello Award.
