ABOUT
Pete Fountain (July 3, 1930 - August 6, 2016, b. Pierre Dewey LaFontaine Jr.) was a highly acclaimed and veteran jazz clarinetist who played with Al Hirt and was a member of the Lawrence Welk orchestra from 1957-1959. He made a splash on the Pop/Rock charts in 1960 with his instrumental rendition of the traditional gospel song and jazz standard, "A Closer Walk with Thee" (as "A Closer Walk"), and later had three Top 40 hits on the Adult Contemporary chart with "Mae" (1965), "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (1967), and "Les Bicyclettes De Belsize" (1969).
