Quincy Jones (March 14, 1933 - November 3, 2024, b. Quincy Delight Jones Jr.) was a highly acclaimed producer, composer, arranger, record executive, conductor, and bandleader who began his long and multi-faceted career in the early 1950s as a jazz trumpeter with Lionel Hampton. He had his biggest crossover success as a recording artist with the smooth romantic ballad, "One Hundred Ways" (1981), an R&B Top 10 smash that made the Pop/Rock Top 20, and he topped the R&B charts with "Stuff Like That" (1978), "I'll Be Good To You" (1989), "The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)" (1990), and "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)" (1990). Jones composed numerous soundtracks for such movies as "In The Heat Of The Night" (1967), "In Cold Blood" (1967), "The Wiz" (1978), and "The Color Purple" (1985), and he won a Primetime Emmy for music from the miniseries, "Roots" (1977). Jones' numerous honors also include 28 Grammys, a Tony Award, and being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2013).
