Skitch Henderson And His Orchestra

ABOUT

Lyle Russel "Skitch" Henderson (January 27, 1918 - November 1, 2005) was a highly acclaimed pianist, conductor, and composer who became famous beginning in the mid 1940s. As a recording artist, his best known songs include the swinging "Five Minutes More" (1946), a Top 10 hit with vocals by Ray Kellogg. Henderson served as conductor of the orchestras for "The Today Show," "Tonight Starring Steve Allen" and, from 1962-1966, "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." His nickname "Skitch" reportedly came from his ability to "re-sketch" a song in a different key.
