Sonny Spencer was a pseudonym for R&B singer and songwriter John Berry (b. January 3, 1938) who had served as a member of the early-mid 1950s group, The Rainbows, based in Washington, D.C. As a solo performer, he is best remembered for "Gilee" (1959) which he co-wrote with Don Covay.
