Tracy Chapman (b. 1964) is a veteran Grammy-winning folk/blues singer-songwriter with a distinctive contralto who became famous beginning in the late 1980s. Her best known songs include the somber and socially conscious "Fast Car" (1988) and the more upbeat and bluesy "Give Me One Reason" (1996).
