The Bubble Puppy - Songs

ABOUT

The Bubble Puppy is a veteran psychedelic rock band that became famous during the late 1960s. They are best known for the pounding, guitar-driven "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" (1969).

Formed in 1966 in San Antonio, Texas by Rod Prince (co-lead guitar) and bassist Roy Cox (1948 - April 2, 2013), both formerly with The Bad Seeds, the original hitmaking lineup also consisted of Todd Potter (co-lead guitar) and David Fore (drums), who all shared vocals. The Bubble Puppy made their live debut in 1967 as the opening act for The Who in San Antonio, and by 1969, had signed with International Artists.

The Bubble Puppy made their debut on the national charts in early 1969 with "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass," which reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became their biggest hit. Their final charting song came later that year with "If I Had A Reason" (1969). In the wake of the success of "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass," the band released their debut album, "A Gathering Of Promises" (1969).

After relocating to Los Angeles in 1970, the band renamed itself Damian and signed with ABC-Dunhill Records, releasing a self-titled album the following year, before finally disbanding in 1972. The original lineup reunited in 1984 to perform and record and in 1987 released their second album as The Bubble Puppy, "Wheels Go Round." They reformed many years later on a more permanent basis in 2011 with some newer members and have continued to perform and record to the present day. The current lineup is a quintet that includes original member Rod Prince.
