ABOUT
Inez Foxx (September 9, 1937 - August 25, 2022) and her older brother Charlie Foxx (October 23, 1933 - September 18, 1998) were an R&B/soul sibling duo that became famous during the 1960s. Inez served as lead singer, with Charlie playing guitar and providing backing vocals. Best known for the playful duet, "Mockingbird" (1963), which made the Top 10 on both the R&B and Pop/Rock charts, other hits include "Hurt By Love" (1964) and "(1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count The Days" (1968).
Both siblings were born in Greensboro, North Carolina to John and Peggy Fox. Charlie began singing with a gospel choir as a child in the early 1950s and was later joined by Inez. In early 1963, they auditioned successfully for Sue Records with their unique call-and-response arrangement of the traditional lullaby, "Hush, Little Baby," which was soon after re-titled "Mockingbird" and released on Sue's subsidiary label, Symbol Records. Known for their exciting live performances, the duo toured extensively in Europe and became hugely popular among fans of the Northern soul scene. Charlie was already working as a songwriter and record producer by the time they disbanded in the early 1970s. Inez continued to record solo for Volt Records through the 1970s.
