Charlie Daniels Band - Songs

ABOUT

The Charlie Daniels Band was a highly acclaimed and pioneering Southern rock group with a unique style incorporating elements of rock, country, blues, and jazz that became famous during the 1970s. They are best known for the rip-roaring "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" (1979) in which the protagonist outperforms Satan in a contest to win a gold fiddle. This epic story song topped the Country charts, made the Pop/Rock Top 5, and earned Daniels a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance. Other hits include the mostly spoken, bluegrass-styled "Uneasy Rider" (1973), the rousing "The South's Gonna Do It" (1975), the patriotic "In America" (1980), and the introspective "Still In Saigon" (1982).

Charlie Daniels (October 28, 1936 - July 6, 2020) first made his mark as a top session fiddler and guitarist in Nashville, Tennessee from the late 1960s through the early 1970s, backing such artists as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Ringo Starr. In 1970, he released his critically-acclaimed self-titled debut album, considered by many to be pivotal in the development of the Southern rock genre. Two years later, he formed the Charlie Daniels Band whose members also included Tom Crain (guitar, vocals), Joe "Taz" DiGregorio (keyboards, vocals), Fred Edwards (drums, percussion), Charles Hayward (bass), and James W. Marshall (drums, percussion), with some personnel changes and additions.

Charlie Daniels continued to tour and record actively through the late 2010s, with a long string of albums that includes the triple-platinum "Million Mile Reflections" (1979). Over his long career, Daniels made many movie appearances as himself, most notably in "Urban Cowboy" (1980) starring John Travolta and Debra Winger. His numerous honors and accolades include being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry (2008) and the Country Music Hall of Fame (2016).
