ABOUT
Coven is a veteran male-female rock group that became famous during the early 1970s. They are best known for the anti-war folk rock smash, "One Tin Soldier" (1971), the theme song from the 1971 action drama, "Billy Jack." A new version of this oldies classic was released in 1973 which became a minor hit that year.
Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1967, the hitmaking lineup consisted of Esther "Jinx" Dawson (vocals), Greg "Oz" Osborne (bass, vocals), John Hobbs (keyboards), Chris Neilsen (guitar), and Steve Ross (drums), with many personnel changes over the years. Coven has continued to perform and record to the present day, branching out into such genres as hard rock, occult rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, and psychedelic rock. Jinx Dawson is the only remaining original member.
