ABOUT
The Crests are a highly acclaimed and veteran R&B/doo-wop group with many personnel changes over the years that became famous during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Best known for the oldies classic, "16 Candles" (1958), other hits include "Six Nights A Week" (1959), "The Angels Listened In" (1959), "Step By Step" (1960), and "Trouble In Paradise" (1960).
Formed in New York City in 1955 by bass vocalist J.T. Carter, the classic hitmaking lineup also consisted of Talmadge "Tommy" Gough, Harold "Chico" Torres, Patricia Van Dross, and lead singer Johnny Maestro (May 7, 1939 - March 24, 2010) who went solo in 1960 and later became a member of Brooklyn Bridge. After The Crests disbanded in 1978, Carter reformed the group in 1980 with all new members and they have continued to perform and record to the present day. The Crests were inducted into the United in Group Harmony Association (UGHA) Hall of Fame in 2000, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, The Doo Wop Hall of Fame in 2008, and The Doo Wop Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
