ABOUT
Debbie Reynolds (April 1, 1932 - December 28, 2016) was a beloved and veteran movie and Broadway star, businesswoman, humanitarian, dancer, and singer who had a string of hits on the Pop/Rock charts during the late 1950s.
Born Mary Frances Reynolds in El Paso, Texas, her family moved to Burbank, California in 1939. She began her long and multifaceted career in show business at age 16 when she won the Miss Burbank beauty contest, landing a contract soon after with Warner Brothers. After appearing in two films, she moved to MGM in 1950 and co-starred in a series of Hollywood movie musicals throughout the 1950s and 1960s, some of which spawned hit songs for Reynolds, that included "Three Little Words" (1950), "Two Weeks With Love" (1950), "Singin' In The Rain" (1952), "The Affairs Of Dobie Gillis" (1953), "Tammy And The Bachelor" (1957), "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (1964), and "The Singing Nun" (1966).
Reynolds made her chart debut in 1951 with the Top 10 hit, "Aba Daba Honeymoon," from the soundtrack to "Two Weeks With Love" performed as a duet with co-star Carleton Carpenter. She topped the charts in 1957 with "Tammy," the main theme from "Tammy And The Bachelor" in which she starred in the title role. Several other hits followed through 1960 that also included "A Very Special Love" (1958) and her pop covers of two country standards, "Am I That Easy To Forget" (1960) and "City Lights" (1960). She also famously recorded an English language version of The Singing Nun classic, "Dominique," which was part of the soundtrack to "The Singing Nun."
