ABOUT

Dr. John was the stage name for Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. (November 20, 1941 - June 6, 2019), a highly acclaimed and influential New Orleans-born singer, songwriter, and pianist with a flamboyant style who became famous under that moniker during the early 1970s. Best known for the gritty swamp rock smash, "Right Place Wrong Time" (1973), other hits include a cover of The Dixie Cups' "Iko Iko" (1972), "Such A Night" (1973), and "(Everybody Wanna Get Rich) Rite Away" (1974).

Widely considered to be a major figure in New Orleans R&B, Rebennack's numerous honors and accolades included six Grammys and being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
