ABOUT

Jimmy Cliff (b. 1944) is a highly acclaimed and veteran Jamaican reggae, soul, ska, and rocksteady singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor who became internationally famous beginning in the late 1960s. He is best known for such classics as the uplifting "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" (1969), the soulful "You Can Get It If You Really Want" (1970), his reggae remake of Cat Steven's "Wild World" (1970), and the defiant "The Harder They Come" (1972), the title song from the movie in which he co-starred that helped popularize reggae worldwide. Cliff re-emerged on the U.S. charts many years later in 1993 with his Top 20 remake of Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now," and he has continued to record and perform actively to the present day.
