ABOUT
Perry Como (May 18, 1912 - May 12, 2001) was a highly acclaimed and veteran traditional pop/easy listening singer, actor, and TV and radio show host with a signature relaxed crooner style and a flair for novelty songs who became famous beginning in the 1940s. His very long string of hits from 1943-1975 includes such classics as "Till The End Of Time" (1945), "Hoop-Dee-Doo" (1950), "Papa Loves Mambo" (1954), "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)" (1956), "Round And Round" (1957), and "Catch A Falling Star" (1958).
Born Pierino Ronald "Perry" Como in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, he began in the early 1930s performing with Freddy Carlone and later joined Ted Weem's Orchestra before signing with RCA in 1943. Over his long career, Como starred and performed in several movies and was the longtime host of his own hugely popular TV variety show. His numerous honors and accolades include five Emmys, three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Peabody Award, and a Grammy. He received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1987 and was honored posthumously with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.
