Sammy Davis Jr. (December 8, 1925 - May 16, 1990) was a highly acclaimed and veteran singer, multi-instrumentalist, actor, comedian, and dancer who became famous as a recording artist beginning in the mid 1950s. Best known for "The Candy Man" (1972, with The Mike Curb Congregation), which topped both the Adult Contemporary and Pop/Rock charts, other big hits include "Something's Gotta Give" (1955) and "I've Gotta Be Me" (1968).

Davis launched his multi-faceted career in show business at age 3 as a vaudeville entertainer and began acting in movies in 1933 and on stage and TV in the mid 1950s. He was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 1987 and in 2001, was honored posthumously with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
